Professional flat pack builder serving Southsea, Portsmouth, and surrounding areas.
Hello, I’m Samuel.
I started Taskfix as an independent, local small business here in Portsmouth in 2025. My goal is to provide a dedicated furniture assembly service that offers care and precision, built on the idea that even flat-pack furniture deserves quality craftsmanship and a personal, reliable touch.
My career in woodworking began in North End in Portsmouth, and Cowplain, where I renovated two different properties, I loved the transformation of sanding and refinishing a floor, or stripping and refurbishing original built-in cabinets.
In 2010 I moved to California to continue my career in music, and my curiosity for woodworking really took hold. I was inspired by the craftsman movement and the amazing skilled woodworking that was displayed at places such as the Gamble House.
I pursued furniture making as a serious hobby, enrolling in several weeks of intensive coursework at Cerritos College—a school renowned for one of the most respected woodworking programs in the United States, which led to me combining my love of music and woodworking and training in Athens, Georgia, as a fully qualified luthier—a specialist in the construction and repair of stringed instruments.
I eventually opened a guitar repair shop in Seattle, specializing in vintage restorations, neck resets, and rebuilds. I was based in a large shared woodworking space, and carried out restorations for local musicians and guitar stores. Doing this work taught be how to be gentle and the importance of precise adjustment.
In the first year of setting up my shop in Seattle, I began working on TaskRabbit and Thumbtack, doing everything from junk runs, to changing door locks for people. I started getting small carpentry jobs and became busier doing that so the guitar work started taking a back seat.
One of the jobs that I always liked doing was assembling flat pack furniture, it was oddly similar to setting up parts on a guitar, where a small adjustment had a large effect, and I could just follow the process from start to finish – most of the time there's a defined start and end, the box -> the assembled item.
Since returning home to Portsmouth in 2020, I have balanced my professional work with my academic pursuits. Having completed my undergraduate degree in 2024, I am currently finishing my Master’s in Coaching Psychology. This background ensures that Taskfix isn't just about the build—it's about professional, clear communication and a service you can rely on.
Because of my background in instrument repair, my attention to detail is meticulous. Whether I am building a wardrobe or a home office suite, I treat your furniture with the same care I would give a high-value instrument. I am punctual, fully insured, friendly, and I ensure every workspace is left spotless.
Don't let a furniture assembly project ruin your weekend. Let Taskfix handle it for you.
