Hello, I’m Samuel.
I run Taskfix here in Portsmouth, conducting furniture assembly, handyman services, and painting and decorating.
My background in home improvement started in my twenties, right here in Portsmouth and Cowplain. I restored a flat and a detached house from top to bottom, teaching myself everything from plastering to floor sanding and final decorating. I loved the satisfaction of taking something old and making it functional and beautiful again; I found it hugely creative as well as rewarding seeing the finished product of my efforts.
In 2010, I moved to the U.S. for work in the music industry. While living in Los Angeles and Seattle, I became inspired by the incredible woodworking at places like the Sam Maloof House and the Gamble House.
This led me to train as a fully qualified luthier (a maker and repairer of stringed instruments). I eventually opened my own guitar repair shop in Seattle, where the work required extreme precision—everything from delicate neck resets to full vintage restorations and refinishes.
To help fund my Seattle shop, I began taking on assembly and carpentry tasks through platforms like TaskRabbit, Thumbtack, and Dolly.
I soon realized that I enjoyed furniture assembly and home repairs just as much as working on guitars. In time, I actually ended up building more furniture and carpentry projects than instruments! What started as a way to support my shop became a professional skill in its own right.
I returned to the U.K. in 2020 during COVID to continue my studies in psychology and have been based in Portsmouth ever since. Having completed my undergraduate degree in 2024, I’m now balancing my Master’s studies in Coaching Psychology with Taskfix.
Because of my background in instrument repair, I have a very high attention to detail. Whether I’m assembling a flat-pack wardrobe, hanging a door, or applying the final coats on a decorating project, I treat the job with the same care I’d give to a high-end guitar. I’m friendly, punctual, and I make sure the area is left spotless when the job is done.
If you’ve recently purchased some furniture, or have a project that needs a professional eye, feel free to check out the price list or get in touch via the contact form for a more tailored quote.
I look forward to meeting you.
Best wishes,
Samuel
